The Importance of Breathing

Posted by Avasiare | Beauty of Health | Friday 30 July 2010 1:04 pm

Before you begin reading, start taking some deep, long breathes. Allow your lungs and diaphragm to open and expand as you breathe in, feel yourself relax as you slowly breathe back out.

Okay, so we know how to breathe, of course, it’s something that occurs to us automatically. We are breathing, even when we are not consciously thinking about it. It seems almost foolish to be told to breath. Yet, shortened and restricted breathing can become an unhealthy habit without even being aware of it.

The stresses of life can cause breathing to become shortened and restricted. Sitting at a desk all day has a tendency to cause a slouched position, diminishing the lung capacity. Over time, lower amounts of oxygen in the body can lower the immune system, making us more susceptible to catching colds, the flu and other “bugs”.

Marcia Gay-Harden, one of our favorite actresses, has been a huge support of the success of Avasiare and believes strongly in the importance of breathing. Marcia has won an Academy Award and is an extremely talented actress. Once Marcia was asked how she transforms herself to portray her characters, almost to the point of looking like someone else. Marcia’s response was that she gets very detailed with her characters, even changing the way she breathes “because how you breathe forms who you are, to a degree.”

Why is breathing important?

You can survive without food or water for hours, even days. David Blaine replaced a world record, holding his breath for 17 minutes and 4 seconds on a recent season of Oprah. Most of us would be lucky to have 10 minutes if we weren’t breathing. Breathing is important for two reasons. It is the only means to supply our bodies and its various organs with the supply of oxygen it needs. Secondly, breathing assists the body in getting rid of waste products and toxins.

Keep breathing…slowly and deeply.

Oxygen is the most vital nutrient for our bodies. It is essential for the integrity of the brain, nerves, glands and internal organs. The brain requires more oxygen than any other organ in the body. Any effort to increase the supply of oxygen to the body and especially the brain will pay rich dividends. One of the major secrets of vitality and rejuvenation is a purified blood stream. The quickest and most effective way to purify the blood stream is by taking in extra supplies of oxygen from the air we breathe. By purifying the blood stream, every part of the body benefits, as well as the mind. The complexion becomes clearer and brighter. Wrinkles appear less prominent. In short, rejuvenation will start to occur.

Scientists have discovered that the chemical basis of energy production in the body is a chemical called Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). If something goes wrong with the production of ATP, the result is lowered vitality, disease, and premature aging. Scientists have also discovered that oxygen is critical for the production of ATP; in fact it is the most vital component.

Unless something is done to reverse the unhealthy habits that cause our shortened and restricted breathing our bodies and our beauty will suffer. The good news is that these habits are reversible, so keep breathing deeply!

Deep breathing exercises, participating in sports or going for a walk all help to increase oxygen intake. Can you think of anything else that makes you breathe heavily?

Then do that too!

Blowing on Your Makeup Brushes

Posted by Avasiare | Makeup Tips | Thursday 22 July 2010 3:22 pm

Bacteria…

Not exactly what you want to picture when you imagine the inhabitants of your mouth, but lurk there they do. Some bacteria are good for the mouth, come are not so good, but you can be sure…they are there. Researchers have discovered up to 615 and counting different bacteria that reside in the mouth at any one time. The mouth provides the perfect environment for replicating, bacteria couldn’t be more comfy taking up residence there where they are fed a steady stream of sugar and carbohydrates. An article from the Harvard Gazette discusses the different types of bacteria that live in the mouth, Discovering who Lives in your Mouth, but we wouldn’t suggest reading it if you’ve just had lunch.

So why all the bacteria talk?

Have you seen a makeup artist, the cosmetic salesperson in the mall…or maybe even you do it, tap a makeup brush in the pan and then blow on the brush to remove excess powder? This is a habit for many. Imagine just for a moment, when you blow on your brush, that 1 or even 600 of those mouth inhabiting bacteria come flying onto your makeup brush, and then are swiftly applied to the face…back to the makeup pan and repeat. Good, bad, or indifferent, bacteria applied to the face, the makeup brush or the pan is NOT good. Bacteria can cause breakouts, skin irritations, and eye cysts or styes.

So then what can you do to remove excess product from your brush? Simply tap the brush handle on the back side of your opposite hand, and whatever you do, don’t blow!

What about applying false lashes? Many people think blowing on the glue helps the lashes adhere to the lash line. Not true, it should take no more than a few seconds for the glue to become tacky enough to adhere to the lashes. Blowing on the glue is simply not necessary.

It’s unlikely that you will ever see a physician blow on their tools before they get to work on you, so why should a makeup artist, mall salesperson, or even you be blowing on your tools?

We always recommend washing your makeup brushes with antibacterial soap at least once a week. Sometimes we don’t realize the simple habits we do to irritate the skin and cause breakouts.

Summertime Skincare Tips

Posted by Avasiare | Skincare Tips | Wednesday 14 July 2010 10:00 pm

If the map happens to find you in the northern hemisphere, then temperatures are headed to the hottest part of summer. The peak of the season can wreck havoc on your skin.

Here are ten easy steps to keep you looking stunning all summer long.

  1. Use SPF of at least 30 daily, and reapply often if you are in the sun for the entire day. We may sound like a broken record here for a sec, but remember, sunscreen is the cheapest and most effective anti-aging cream you can use…period.
  2. Wash with a gel cleanser that will cleanse without stripping the skin of its natural oils and non-drying. We suggest our Sea Botanical Wash, chemical fragrance free and non-irritating.
  3. Exfoliate daily or every other day to remove dead cells from the surface of the skin. Exfoliation also helps your rehydrator to better penetrate the skin. If the skin is red or irritated from the sun or other environmental factors, skip the exfoliation until your skin is less irritated. Our Bio Cellular Exfoliant is the perfect solution to removing dead cells without damaging the skin. In addition to using Bio Cellular Exfoliant on the face, you can exfoliate your chest, arms and back for a gorgeous glow.
  4. Stay well hydrated throughout the entire day. If water gets a little boring for you, add slices of citrus fruits or cucumber for added flavor without the calories.
  5. Breakouts can occur more often in the summertime, be sure to wash your pillowcase often. Use wipes to clean your cell phone. Wash your makeup brushes once a week, or every other week.
  6. Limit fast food intake. Fast food is substantially higher in sodium, water retention and bloating is definitely not something you want if a swimsuit or shorts are in your near future.
  7. Load up on fruits and veggies that are in season all summer long. The more colorful your diet, the more benefit you will receive not only to your skin, but to your waistline as well.
  8. If you use our Extra Oil Controlling Pressed Powder, your skin will stay matte for the majority of the day. If you are brave enough to go completely makeup free, you can use our Rice Paper Blotters to absorb excess oil. The Rice Paper Blotter can be used with or without makeup, especially useful prior to photos, and to throw in your purse for touch-ups.
  9. Keep hair well moisturized. The sun and wind, along with the additional time spent outdoors and in pools can really dry out your hair. A deep moisturizing treatment at least once a week will help keep your hair manageable and healthy.
  10. If you love to have that bronze color all summer long, but don’t want the damage from the sun, look into airbrush tanning. Our Dallas studio, Avasiare PRO Studio located in University Park, offers organic air brush tanning available by appointment only. Call 866.616.4AVA to book your appointment.

Have a safe and gorgeous summer and let us help you…

Our Beauty Philosophy

Posted by Avasiare | Crackers and Cookies | Tuesday 22 June 2010 8:38 pm

For as long as there have been philosophers, there have been philosophies about beauty. We don’t consider ourselves to be philosophers, but here is how we define real beauty:

We have encountered countless people with extraordinary beauty. Even seen from afar, real beauty, or attractiveness speaks instantly and is very intriguing. This type of person is inspired with their blend of individualism and confidence, mixed with genuine heart. We believe that there is inner beauty that far outweighs outer physical attractiveness.

However, appearance is a composite of three things: skin, complexion, and expression. Skin is an interchangeable membrane that reacts to any environment it’s in. Complexion is what gives you a stunning glow or robs you of years. Expression is what brings life to your facial features.

The condition of your skin gives everything away; your age, health, emotions and habits. Your appearance is a direct reflection of how well you take care of yourself. It is important to treat yourself kindly, with regular personal emotional and physical well being and balance.

From the day we met, over 20 years ago, there are things in common that we both feel passionately about: makeup, skincare, food, fitness, health and wellness. As we have gotten older, we have realized our affect on the planet and continually try to find ways to lower our personal and business carbon footprint. All of these things encompass who we are.

As we continue to write, you may see topics reemerging that we covered in our previous Avasiare website blog. We’ll be mixing in news and updates, with makeup and skincare tips like before.

Most importantly, our hope is to ultimately help YOU be stunning from the inside out!

Be it a fabulous food we’ve discovered that helps the skin stay gorgeous or a planet saving initiative that the The Nature Conservancy is involved with. We hope as you learn more about what we are passionate about, you will share your passions with us as well!

Beautiful Inside and Out

Posted by Avasiare | Beauty of Health | Tuesday 20 April 2010 6:00 am

We all really know that it’s what’s on the inside that matters, and who you are is what’s truly beautiful. You bring to this earth something special and that’s why you are here. You are special because you are you.

Why couldn’t we have been taught that in our teens and 20′s!

Although, this is what we all know it true, we do live in the world’s system. Beauty matters….

Accept it, learn it, have fun with it…don’t be afraid of it.
